In the mountains of Lichuan City, Enshi, Hubei Province, there is a shocking geological wonder-Tenglongdong Scenic Area. It is famous all over the world for its “majestic, strange, dangerous, secluded, and beautiful”. It is the largest proven cave in Asia and one of the six most beautiful tourist caves in China. The stalactites in the cave are colorful, the underground dark rivers are rushing endlessly, the green mountains outside the cave are surrounded by gurgling streams, and there are also unique laser shows and Tujia song and dance performances. The perfect blend of natural wonders and humanities and arts can be called a “museum in the cave”.

It is about 6 kilometers away from Lichuan City and about 120 kilometers away from Enshi City. It takes about 2.5 hours by car. It is one of the representative attractions in the Enshi Tourist circle.

1. Tenglong Cave Main Cave (the largest cave in Asia)

The total length of the main cave is about 59.8 kilometers, and the entrance of the cave is 74 meters high and 64 meters wide, which is equivalent to 20 floors high. It can accommodate helicopters to pass through it, which is magnificent. Stepping into the cave is like entering an ‘underground palace”: there are a variety of stalactites hanging from the top of the cave, some like the “Dinghai God Needle” straight into the ground, some like the “Jade Pillar Qingtian” towering, and others are shaped like “birds and beasts”, lifelike. The temperature in the cave is maintained at 14-18℃ all year round, even in summer, it is cool and pleasant, and it is a natural “summer resort”; walking on the trail in the cave, you can still hear the sound of flowing water in the underground dark river, mysterious and quiet.

2. Laser show performance (the collision of technology and nature)

The laser show is the “net celebrity project” of Tenglong Cave and is staged in the “Laser Theater” deep in the main cave. The performance uses the rock wall of the cave as the curtain, and uses advanced laser technology to project pictures of mountains, rivers, starry sky, and the migration of Tujia ancestors. With shocking sound effects, it seems to travel through time and space, telling the geological evolution of Tenglong Cave and the history of Tujia. The performance lasts for about 20 minutes. During the changes of light and shadow, stalactites and lasers are intertwined, making the dark cave colorful and visually impactful, suitable for tourists of all ages.

3. ‘Yishui Lichuan’ Song and Dance Performance (Tujia Cultural Feast)

‘Yishui Lichuan’ is a large-scale live song and dance performance that shows the folk culture of the Tujia people. It is performed in the exclusive “song and Dance Theater” in the cave. The performance is themed on the historical legends and life customs of the Tujia people, and includes classic elements such as hand-waving dance, dragon boat tune, and wedding song. The actors are dressed in gorgeous Tujia costumes and use singing and dancing to interpret the enthusiasm and simplicity of the Tujia family. The theater relies on the natural acoustic effects of the cave. Without a microphone, the singing can be clearly transmitted to every corner. The immersive experience is full. After watching the performance, you can also have a deeper understanding of the Tujia culture.

4. Underground dark River (River in the cave)

The underground dark River in Tenglongdong is called ‘Qingjiang Fuliu”. It is an underground river of the Qingjiang River with a total length of about 16 kilometers. The river is crystal clear and the water is turbulent. Visitors can watch the dark river in the designated area of the cave. In some sections, the river can be seen rushing out of the rock crevices, forming a small waterfall. The sound of water roars and is majestic. The rock walls on both sides of the dark River are covered with moss and stalactites, side by side with the river, like an “underground gallery”.

5. Wolong Thun River Waterfall (Spectacle Outside the cave)

Outside the entrance of Tenglong Cave, there is a spectacular waterfall-Wolong Tunjiang Waterfall. The Qingjiang River flows through here and suddenly falls into the cave, forming a waterfall about 20 meters high and 30 meters wide. The water hits the rocks, splashes everywhere, and the roar is deafening. It can be heard from a distance of 100 meters. Standing on the observation deck next to the waterfall, you can not only enjoy the majestic momentum of the waterfall, but also see the picture of the waterfall and the entrance of Tamron Cave. It is a must-see landscape outside the cave, especially after the rain, the amount of water increases, and the waterfall is even more spectacular.

6. Zhidong Group (Niche Exploration Area)

In addition to the main cave, Tenglong Cave also has a number of branch caves, such as “Guanyin Cave”, “Luohan Cave” and “Baiyushilin Cave”. At present, some branch caves have been opened to the public. Although the scale of the branch cave is not as large as the main cave, the stalactites are more unique in shape. For example, the “Statue of Guanyin” stalactites in Guanyin Cave are shaped like a seated Guanyin with a solemn expression. The stalactites in the white jade stone forest cave are as white as jade, arranged like a stone forest, niche and clean, suitable for tourists who like to explore.

Precautions

Outfit recommendation：

Clothing: The temperature in the cave is 14-18℃ all year round, and the temperature difference between it and the outside of the cave is large (especially in summer). Regardless of the season, it is recommended to bring a thin coat (such as a sweater or jacket) to avoid catching cold.；

Shoes: Most of the trails in the cave are stone roads, and some sections are wet and slippery. You need to wear non-slip sports shoes or hiking shoes. Do not wear high heels or sandals to avoid falling.；

Others: The light in the cave is dark, so you can bring a flashlight (mobile phone flashlight is also available) to check the road conditions; if you want to take pictures, it is recommended to wear bright-colored clothing and take pictures in a dim environment.

Tour tips：

The tour route in the cave is long (the whole journey is about 3-4 kilometers). It is recommended to travel lightly and do not carry too much luggage. There are sightseeing cars in the scenic area (included in the ticket), which can reduce the walking distance. You need to pay attention to the stops of the sightseeing cars.；

Laser shows and cabaret performances are fixed. It is recommended to arrive at the theater 30 minutes in advance to occupy a seat. Especially during holidays, the theater has limited seats. You may only be able to stand and watch if you arrive late.；

The signal in the sub-area inside the cave is weak, so it is recommended to agree on the meeting time and place with your peers to avoid getting separated; you can download the scenic area map in advance to familiarize yourself with the tour route.

Safety and environmental protection：

Some sections of the cave are narrow, steep, and dimly lit. You need to support the guardrail when walking, pay attention to your feet, and don’t chase and fight; Don’t touch the stalactites. It takes tens of thousands of years for the stalactites to form, and touch will destroy their surface structure.；

It is strictly forbidden to dispose of garbage in the cave or in the dark river. There are trash cans along the scenic area, so the garbage needs to be sorted and put out; do not smoke in the cave to avoid safety accidents.；

When watching Wolong Tun River Waterfall, do not approach the edge of the guardrail to avoid getting wet or dangerous by splashing water.

Summer (June-August) is the peak tourist season, and there are more tourists. It is recommended to travel at the wrong peak (such as working days) for a better experience; in winter (December-February), the cave is colder and you need to put on more clothes, but there are fewer tourists, which is suitable for quiet excursions.；

If you have plenty of time, you can connect Tamron Cave with other attractions in Icheon (such as Dragon Boat Water Village and Sumadang), and arrange a 2-day and 1-night itinerary to experience the beauty of Icheon in depth.

Other reminders：

There are restaurants and commissaries in the scenic area. You can taste Icheon specialties (such as Icheon small potatoes, hops, bacon), but the price is higher. You can also bring your own snacks and drinking water.；

The humidity in the cave is high, and electronic equipment such as cameras and mobile phones may be damp. It is recommended to bring a waterproof bag to avoid damage to the equipment.；

There are Tujia handicraft shops near the exit of the scenic area. You can buy special souvenirs such as Silankapu and bamboo weaving, but you need to consume rationally and pay attention to the quality.

Here, you can not only sigh at the ingenuity of nature, but also immerse yourself in the cultural charm of the Tujia people. Whether it is a family trip, a group of friends, or a solo exploration, you can reap a unique experience. If you yearn for the ‘underground wonderland” and long for a cool and shocking trip, Tenglong Cave is definitely worth a visit.

1. Hovercraft experience area (core check-in point)

This is the most prestigious landscape of Pingshan Canyon, located near “Atapuzi” in the middle of the canyon. Because the river bed is mostly limestone, the clear river water shows an almost transparent blue-green color after filtering out impurities. The water depth is about 2-3 meters, but the pebbles and aquatic plants at the bottom of the river can be clearly seen. Take a small wooden boat unique to the area (each boat can seat 2-3 people, and the boatman will assist in adjusting the posture). When the boat enters the open water, shoot from a specific angle to capture the dreamy effect of “people sitting in the boat, the boat seems to hang in the air”. The best shooting time is 9-11 am or 3-5 pm. At this time, the sun shines obliquely, the water surface reflects softly, and the photo texture is better.

2. A line of heaven (wonders of the earth’s cracks)

After entering the canyon, you need to pass through a natural crevice about 200 meters long-“A line of sky”. The cliffs on both sides are hundreds of meters high and straight into the sky. At the narrowest point, only one person can pass sideways. Looking up, the sky is squeezed into a slender “line”. Sunlight shines through the gaps, forming mottled light and shadow on the rock walls, like a “sky tunnel”. Walking on the stone steps, you can hear the sound of water droplets falling from the top of your head and the murmur of the stream at the bottom of the valley. The atmosphere is full of atmosphere. It is a must-see place to experience the “quiet” and “dangerous” of the canyon.

3. Mochizuki Bridge (high-altitude observation deck)

Mochizuki Bridge is a glass viewing bridge suspended over the canyon. It is about 50 meters long and 100 meters high. The deck is made of transparent glass. Standing on the bridge, you can overlook the panoramic view of the entire canyon: under your feet is the turquoise river and the small boats passing through, and in the distance are the rolling green mountains and the scattered Tujia hanging towers. The view is wide, thrilling and exciting. It is especially suitable for taking panoramic views of canyons, or recording videos of “high-altitude overlooking suspended boats”, which have a strong visual impact.

4. Escape Gorge (Primitive Secret Realm)

Escape Gorge is a “hidden attraction” of Pingshan Canyon, located deep in the canyon, named after the local villagers who escaped the war in the early years. It has not yet been fully developed and retains the most primitive natural style: the cliffs on both sides of the strait are covered with vines and moss, the river is clearer than the core area, and small fish can occasionally be seen swimming by; there are also natural caves, waterfalls, streams and other landscapes along the way, which need to be entered on foot under the guidance of a local guide (round trip about 2 Hours), suitable for tourists who like niche and pristine scenery, but they need to pay attention to safety, and some sections of the road need to be waded.

5. Tujia Style Village (Humanistic Experience)

Pingshan Village near the entrance of the scenic area is a typical Tujia village, retaining the traditional hanging foot building, stone slab road and Tujia folklore. There are many Tujia restaurants in the village, where you can taste local delicacies such as bacon, stewed potatoes, hop slag, and social rice. Some villagers also sell handicrafts such as hand-woven brocades (Silankapu) and bamboo weaving. Visitors can communicate with the villagers, feel the simple folk customs of the Tujia people, and experience “follow the romans”. The fun.

6. Yulin Lake (end of the canyon)

Yulin Lake is the end point of the Pingshan Canyon cruise. The lake is as calm as a mirror, surrounded by green mountains, and there are rest pavilions and observation decks by the lake. After the cruise arrives, you can take a break here to enjoy the lake and mountains, or take a reflection photo of “Qingshan Yinghu”. There are also Tujia-style watermills and wooden plank roads by the lake, which are suitable for walking and relaxing to relieve fatigue after hiking.

Precautions

Outfit recommendation：

Shoes: There are many stone steps and dirt roads in the scenic area, and some sections of the road are wet and slippery. Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes or hiking shoes, and avoid high heels and sandals.；

Clothing: The temperature difference in the canyon is large (3-5℃ lower than the outside world), and it is recommended to bring a thin coat even in summer; if you plan to take suspension photos, you can wear light-colored or bright-colored clothing (such as white and blue) to take pictures.；

Others: It is recommended to bring a sun hat and sunglasses (the sunlight in the canyon reflects strongly), and a sun protection clothing can be prepared in summer.

Shooting tips：

When shooting a hovercraft, it is recommended to use the “panoramic mode” or “portrait mode” of a mobile phone or camera to avoid backlit shooting; a small tripod can be carried to ensure stable picture.；

Attractions such as First-line Sky, Mochizuki Bridge, etc. are dimly lit, so you can turn on the mobile phone flash or camera fill light function.；

Respect the regulations of scenic spots, and the use of drones for aerial photography is prohibited in some areas (you need to consult the scenic staff in advance).

Safety and environmental protection：

Some sections of the canyon are narrow and steep. You need to support the guardrail when walking to avoid chasing and fighting; the water-related sections need to follow the instructions of the guide and do not go into the water without authorization.；

It is strictly forbidden to discard garbage into the canyon. There are trash cans along the scenic area, and the garbage needs to be sorted and put into the canyon.；

Do not touch the stalactites on the rock walls or destroy vegetation at will to protect the fragile ecological environment.

Itinerary planning:

The tour of the scenic area takes about 3-4 hours (including hiking, boat rides, and photo time). It is recommended to arrive before 9 am to avoid the peak flow of people at noon.；

Summer (June-August) is the rainy season. There may be short-term heavy rains in the canyon. You need to bring rain gear, pay attention to the weather forecast, and avoid going on rainy days (the road is slippery on rainy days and the river is muddy, which affects the effect of suspension photos).；

In spring and autumn (April-May, September-October), the climate is cool and the vegetation is lush, which is the best season to visit; in winter (December-February), the temperature is low, and some sections of the road may freeze. Please pay attention to keeping warm and non-slip.

Other reminders：

The price of food and beverage in the scenic area is higher (such as mineral water 5 yuan /bottle, light meals 30-50 yuan /serving), you can bring a small amount of snacks and drinking water (but don’t carry too much to avoid heavy hiking)；

The signal of the mobile phone is weak in some areas deep in the canyon. It is recommended to agree a meeting point with your peers in advance to avoid getting separated.；

If you plan to experience hiking in Xiaoxia, you need to contact the scenic area to make an appointment with the guide in advance, and do not enter the undeveloped area alone.

Pingshan Canyon is not a short-lived gimmick of ‘Internet celebrity punch-in place”, but a “healing secret realm” that allows you to calm down and feel the beauty of nature. Here, you can temporarily put aside the hustle and bustle of the city, listen to the murmur of the stream, watch the green mountains stacked with green, take a boat “suspended” on the clear water, and experience the poetry and romance of “people swimming in the painting”. Whether it is a parent-child tour, a couple tour, or a solo trip, this place can bring you an unforgettable “journey to wonderland”.

Among the lofty mountains of Enshi, Hubei Province, there is a geological treasure carved by time-the Sobuya Stone Forest. It is famous for its reputation as “the world’s No. 1 Ordovician stone forest”. It is an alternative presentation of karst topography and forms a distinctive but complementary natural landscape with the cliff peaks of Enshi Grand Canyon. Every stone here carries hundreds of millions of years of geological memory, and every gully tells the magic of natural evolution. It is an excellent place for hiking exploration, popular science research and photography.

1. Basic situation and geographical location

Sobuya Stone Forest is located in Taiyanghe Township, Enshi City, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province. It is about 54 kilometers away from Enshi City and about 1.5 hours by car. It is located in the upper reaches of the Taiyanghe River, a branch of the Qingjiang River. It is located in the mountains at an altitude of 900-1200 meters. The total area of the scenic area is 21 square kilometers, and the core tourist area is divided into four major areas. It is the largest and most complete Ordovician stone forest discovered in China.

The so-called “Ordovician Period” is a period of about 480 million to 440 million years in the middle of the geological age. At that time, it was still a vast ocean. After a long period of crustal movement, seawater erosion and weathering, the carbonate rocks in the ocean gradually lifted up, forming today’s stone forest of different forms. ‘Sobuya’ means “three springs” in the Tujia language. It is named after the many natural springs distributed in the scenic area. It also implies the geological origin of the “water-made stone forest and spring-run secret realm” here.

2. Tickets and open information

1. Opening hours

The scenic area is open all year round, and the opening hours are slightly adjusted depending on the season.：

3. Core attractions: the “Geological Code” of the four major areas

The Sobuya stone forest is characterized by “melting patterns and wearing crowns“. It is different from the ”sword-shaped upright“ of the Yunnan stone forest. The stone forest here is more ”rounded and agile“, and each area has a unique theme and landscape. It is like four different ”geological encyclopedias’.

1. Qinglongtai Area: A fantasy Journey of ‘Stone Forest Maze”

Qinglongtai is the most central and representative area of the scenic area. It is named after the winding terrain like a green dragon. It is also the first stop for tourists after entering the park. The stone forest here has the highest density. The trail shuttles between the boulders, sometimes narrow to allow only one person to pass, and sometimes it is as wide as a natural square. It is known as the “stone forest maze”.

Zhenlong Jade Pillar: An iconic landscape in the area. A stone pillar about 20 meters high rises from the ground. There is a naturally formed “jade crown” on the top. From a distance, it looks like a “dragon head” of a green dragon. The column body is covered with different shades of dissolved patterns, as delicate as dragon scales. It is the Ordovician Period.A typical example of weathering of carbonate rocks.

Qinglong Gorge: A natural canyon in the stone forest. The streams in the valley are gurgling, and the stone walls on both sides are covered with ‘wave marks”-this is the trace left by ocean waves scouring the rocks 400 million years ago. When you touch it with your hand, you can clearly feel the “lines” of the ancient waves. It can be called a ‘living geological textbook”..

A line of sky: Two huge stone forests are tilted opposite each other in an “inverted figure of eight”, leaving only a narrow gap in the middle. When sunlight passes through the gap, it will form light and dark intertwined light and shadow on the ground. In the early morning or evening, you may also see the stunning image of the “beam of light through the gap”.

2. Lianhuazhai Area: The aura of the king of the “Stone Forest with Crown”

Lianhuazhai is named after the stone forest surrounded by “lotus blossoms”. The stone forest here is characterized by “wearing a crown’-the top of many stone pillars is covered with a thicker layer of rock formations, like a ‘crown” or “hat’. It is a unique landscape formed by the differences in the weathering resistance of different rock formations., It is relatively rare in the karst topography of the world.

Lotus throne: The core landscape of the area, a circular stone forest surrounded by a ‘lotus shape”, with a flat rock in the center like a ‘lotus heart”, and the “stone crown” on the top of the surrounding stone pillars like petals. Legend has it that it was once the “altar” where the ancestors of the Tujia worshipped, and it can still be felt today.Solemn atmosphere.

Rhino ditch: A shallow ditch hidden in the stone forest. At the bottom of the ditch, there is a boulder shaped like a rhino. The stone body is covered with moss, which contrasts sharply with the surrounding gray stone forest. During the rainy season, small waterfalls will form in the ditch, and water will drip down the gaps in the stone forest, like a vivid scene of “rhino drinking water”.

Rhino Ditch*Eagle spreads its wings

Danfeng Chaoyang: A sloping boulder with a top outline like a phoenix spreading its wings. When the sun shines in the early morning, the stone body will show a faint orange-red color, as if the phoenix is bathed in the chaoyang sun. It is a must-take spot for photography enthusiasts.

3. Mozigou Area: The secret realm of symbiosis between ‘caves and Stone Forests”

Mozigou got its name because there is a boulder shaped like a “stone mill” in the area. This is the area where the stone forest and the cave are most closely combined. There are both wonders of the stone forest on the surface and the secret realm of the cave underground, showing the three-dimensional landscape of “above-ground stone forest and underground maze”.

Mozigou*Shitajian

Kowloon Hui: The nine stone pillars are arranged in an arc, like nine dragons gathered together. The bottom of the stone pillars is connected to the underground cave. During the rainy season, the “murmur of water” from the cave can be heard, as if the dragon is “drinking water and spitting mist” underground.

Nuo Po Stone: A boulder that resembles a “Nuo Opera mask”. The facial contours are clear, and the forms of the eyes, nose, and mouth are lifelike. It is a wonderful fusion of Tujia Nuo culture and natural landscape. The Tu family believes that this stone has the meaning of ”praying for blessings and ward off evil spirits’, and many tourists will take pictures here as a souvenir.

Sinkhole cave: There is a small sinkhole hidden in the area. There is a cave entrance at the bottom of the sinkhole. The stalactites in the cave are well-developed. Although not as grand as Tamron Cave, it is better than “small and exquisite” and connected to the stone forest. You can experience the unique sense of exploration of “walking from the stone forest into the cave” (The cave needs to be entered under the guidance of a guided tour, and some areas need to be careful of slippery).

4. Kowloon Hui Area: The Humanistic Imprint of “Boulders and Legends”

The Kowloon Hui area is centered on “large-scale monolithic strange stones” and “Legends of the Tu Family”. Although the scale of the stone forest here is not as dense as the previous three, there are many lifelike “pictographic stones”. Behind each stone is the ancient story of the Tu family.

Legend has it that this is the “god boot” left by Linjun, the ancestor of the Tujia tribe, when he traveled westward, symbolizing Linjun’s protection of the people.

Ganoderma lucidum stone: A flat boulder with multiple bumps on the top, shaped like ‘Ganoderma Lucidum”. The stone body is covered with green moss. From a distance, it looks like a giant Ganoderma lucidum that has just grown after the rain. It is a popular spot for tourists to check in.

Lover’s stone: Two stone pillars that depend on each other, one slightly higher and the other slightly shorter, like a pair of couples standing side by side. The “stone crown” on the top of the stone pillar is like the “bun” of the two. The Tu family calls it “Amei Panlanggui”, which is a symbol of love.

4. Play suggestions and precautions

1. Play time and route planning

It is recommended to visit throughout the day (about 5-6 hours). The route can be visited in the order of ‘Qinglongtai →Lianhuazhai →Mozigou →Jiulonghui’. The sightseeing bus will cycle along this route to avoid turning back. If time is tight, you can give priority to visiting Qinglongtai and Lianhuazhai, these two areas concentrate the core landscape of the stone forest.

2. Equipment and outfit

Shoes: Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes or hiking shoes. Most of the stone forest trails are stone steps, and some areas are wet and slippery (especially near the Mozigou cave). Avoid wearing high heels or sandals.

Clothing: There is a large temperature difference between day and night in mountainous areas, so it is recommended to bring a thin coat even in summer; raincoats are required during the rainy season (May-August) (umbrellas are inconvenient to use in stone forests) to avoid catching cold after getting wet.

Others: Bring sunscreen, sun hat (strong ultraviolet rays in summer), and power bank (there are fewer charging points in the scenic area). If you want to explore the cave in depth, you can bring a flashlight (mobile phone flashlight is also available).

3. Safety and environmental protection

Safety first: walk strictly according to the signs of the scenic area, and do not enter undeveloped areas without authorization (some stone forests have deep crevices and may be at risk of falling rocks); pay attention to your feet when taking pictures to avoid falling down due to focusing on the view.

Take care of the environment: the rocks in the stone forest are very fragile, and it is forbidden to climb, dig or knock on stone pillars. There are trash cans in the scenic area. Please do not litter to protect the original style of the “Billion-year stone Forest”.

4. Dining and Accommodation

Catering: There are small restaurants or food stalls in all areas of the scenic area, which mainly provide Tujia specialties, such as Heji, bacon fried shredded potatoes, Tujia pancakes, etc., with a per capita consumption of 30-50 yuan. You can also bring your own dry food (such as bread and fruit) and eat in the rest area of the scenic area.

Accommodation: If you want to have an in-depth experience, you can choose to stay in a “Shilin Homestay” around the scenic area, such as the Tujia Hanging Foot Building Homestay in Taiyanghe Township, with a price of 80-200 yuan /night, you can experience the characteristics of Tujia Huotang, farmhouse vegetables, etc.; If you return to Enshi City on the same day, it is recommended to stay at 17:00. Take a sightseeing bus out of the park before, to avoid missing the return shuttle bus.

5. Featured experience recommendation

Popular science research: There is a “Ordovician Geological Museum” (free of charge) in the scenic area, which can learn about the formation process and geological knowledge of the stone forest, which is suitable for families with children; some seasons will also launch “Little Geologist” research activities, you need to make an appointment in advance.

Tujia culture: There are often Tujia song and dance performances (such as hand-waving dance and dragon boat tune singing) at the entrance of the scenic area, which are free to watch; if you catch up with the “Tujia Daughters’ Meeting” on the 12th of July of the lunar calendar, you can also participate in local folk activities and feel the Tujia customs.

Sobuya Stone Forest is not a landscape that is ‘shocking at a glance”, but a secret realm that needs to be “slowly appreciated”-when you touch the wave marks of 400 million years ago, watch the sun pass through the gaps in the stone forest, and listen to the Tujia guide telling the legend behind the stone, you can truly understand this piece.“The charm of the ”living geological Museum’. There is no crowded crowd here, only the dialogue between stone and time, suitable for everyone who is eager to escape the hustle and bustle and get close to nature, to have an “encounter with hundreds of millions of years of history.”

Yunlong Seam

The Yunlongdi Seam can be called a great spectacle of Enshi Grand Canyon. It is located on the west side of the scenic visitor center, with an area of about 11.3 square kilometers and an altitude of between 600-800 meters. The total length of the seam is 3,600 meters, with an average depth of 75 meters. The plane is in the shape of a “Z”, spreading in a north-south direction, perpendicular to the top and bottom, the cross-section is U-shaped, and the cliffs are steep and straight. It has the reputation of “ten miles and a hundred feet of cliffs”. This was once the fluvial section of the Yunlong River. After a long period of geological changes, the uplift of the mountains, the erosion of the flowing water on the surface and the erosion and transportation of the underground caused the top of the dark River to collapse, and the cracks in the ground were able to be displayed in front of the world.

Walking into the crevices of Yunlong Earth, it seemed to have entered a mysterious underground world. The banks of the river are steep and the waterfalls are torrential, with a total of 7 semi-waterfalls hanging from the cliffs. Crescent Lake is like a turquoise gemstone inlaid in the crevices of the ground; Yunlong Waterfall has a drop of more than 70 meters, and the water source comes from the surface stream of Mufu. The top water flow hits the protruding rock on the rock wall of the crevice and turns to torrents. Long-term dissolution and precipitation have caused a giant calcium to form on the surface of the protruding rock.Huati, visually forming a phenomenon of secondary falling water; rainbow waterfall is the first waterfall in the crevice to be exposed to sunlight. Whenever the sun shines, it is generally accompanied by two or three rainbows. The waterfall water directly hits the protruding heart-shaped calcified body on the rock wall of the crevice. On the cliff wall, the water from the waterfall directly hits the heart-shaped calcified body protruding on the rock wall of the crevice. The three huge gray-black stones hanging are karst stalactites or calcites; the colorful Huanglong Waterfall has a drop of more than 60 meters and flows down the copper-colored calcite that resembles a church bell. It is also called ‘Golden Bell Waterfall“. Looking at the bottom of the waterfall from the covered bridge, the calcite is like aThe “golden beetle” with its head held high is enjoying the bathing in the clear waterfall. Under the sunlight, the rocks at the bottom of the valley are orange-red and beautiful. There is also the stone curtain, which is a landscape formed by the accumulation of calcite on the surface of the ground on the cliffs of the cracks. It hangs vertically and resembles a curtain. It took tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years to form, witnessing the vicissitudes of time.

Qixing Village

Qixingzhai Scenic Area is one of the core scenic spots of Enshi Grand Canyon, with an open area of 7.2 kilometers. Here, geological landscapes such as sinkholes, crevices, cliffs, peaks, rock pillars, caves, and dark rivers are readily available, like a natural geological museum. The landscape of cliffs and peaks in the scenic area can be called a must. In the karst terrain, those with cliffs usually have no peaks and those with peaks have no cliffs, but the Enshi Grand Canyon has both. It has to be said that it is a miracle of nature. The cliffs are either recessed in the cong peaks, or stand on top of the cong peaks. Looking around, there are dozens of limestone stone peaks and pillars, jagged and upright, with different poses. People can’t help but sigh at the ingenuity of nature.

A stick of incense is an iconic landscape of Enshi Grand Canyon. This independent Triassic limestone column has a height of 150 meters, a diameter of 6 meters at the bottom of the column, and a minimum diameter of only 4 meters. It is very rare in similar karst topography. Its lonely peak stands straight into the sky, as if it is a stick of incense dedicated by the earth to the sky, carrying the baptism of the years and the weight of history. On October 17, 2009, the CCTV-10 “Into Science” column reported on the mystery of ‘Qingtian One Pillar’, which made it famous for thousands of years. In addition, attractions such as the Great Building Gate Peak, the small Building Gate Peak, the Jade Pen Peak, the Twin Towers, the Jade Goddess Peak, and the Auspicious Cloud Torch also have their own characteristics, each of which contains the unique charm of nature. The overall shape of the tower gate peak cong is similar to that of the Wulingyuan quartz sandstone peak Forest in Zhangjiajie, but its composition is limestone, and the stone pillars of dozens of peaks and forests are scattered and majestic; the small tower gate peak cong shows a kind of small and exquisite beauty, and the peaks and cong echo each other, forming a beautiful picture scroll.;The jade pen tip is like a huge brush, with the nib straight into the sky, as if writing a magnificent poem of nature; the twin towers are formed by the weathering, erosion and dissolution of Triassic limestone, like Lusheng-like symmetrical two-columnar mountains, not connected to each other, staring at each other, as if tellingAncient legend; Jade Girl Peak is just like a Tujia girl carrying a basket, slim and gentle and moving; Xiangyun Peak was originally integrated with Dashan Mountain, but due to the thin layer of limestone and impure texture, the heavy load cracks developed and some of the rocks naturally fell off, and gradually formed its current unique shape. It seemed to be a burning torch, illuminating this magical land.

The charm of Enshi Dixin Valley lies in the “geological wonders of hundreds of millions of years + the imprint of thousands of years of humanities + stimulating outdoor experience”. The core attractions cover natural landscapes and cultural relics, and each place is worth exploring in depth.：

1. Glass bridge at the end of the cloud (core check-in point)

As the first canyon suspension glass bridge in Hubei, the Yunzhiduan Glass bridge spans the cliffs on both sides of the Geocentric Valley. The deck is made of three-layer laminated tempered glass, which is about 200 meters high, 268 meters long and 3.2 meters wide. Standing on the bridge, you can overlook the deep scenery of the entire canyon: under your feet are turquoise streams and jagged rocks, and in the distance are continuous green mountains and misty clouds, as if walking in the clouds. The glass bridge also has a ”special effects glass’ area. When you step on it, there will be “broken” sound effects and visual effects. It is thrilling and exciting. It is a must-see place to take pictures and check in. Especially on sunny days, the blue sky is reflected on the glass, and the film output rate is extremely high.

2. Geocentric Valley Canyon (geological Wonder of Hundreds of Millions of years)

The canyon is the core natural landscape of the scenic area. It has a total length of about 5 kilometers and consists of three sections: “Wenxin Valley, Washing Heart Valley, and Shuxin Valley”. The bottom of the valley is about 600 meters above sea level, and the highest point of the cliffs on both sides is more than 300 meters. It is named because the canyon is as deep as the “heart of the earth”. The streams in the canyon rush all year round, forming a number of waterfalls, deep pools and shallows. The streams are crystal clear, and the pebbles and small fish at the bottom of the river can be clearly seen. The rock walls along the way are covered with caves, stalactites and folds formed over hundreds of millions of years, such as the “First line of Heaven”, “Tianshengqiao”, “Shi Shuya” and other landscapes, which can be called the “karst Geological museum”. Hiking on the canyon trail, you can not only feel the cool mountain breeze, but also enjoy the geological wonders up close, as if traveling through hundreds of millions of years.

3. Bashan Ancient Road (the mark of a thousand years of humanities)

The Bashan Ancient Road is an important cultural relic in the scenic area. It began in the pre-Qin Period and was an important passage for the ancient Bashan people to transport salt. It has a total length of about 1.5 kilometers and runs through the valley of the heart of the earth. The ancient road is paved with bluestone slabs, and some sections of the road are inlaid on cliffs. The narrow places can only accommodate one person. Along the way, there are still ruins such as the “Yanfu Plank Road”, “Cliff stone carvings” and “Ancient stations”. Walking along the ancient road, it seemed that you could see the figures of the salt masters walking forward with their shoulders on their backs, and the sound of the salt masters’ trumpets seemed to echo in their ears. In the “Salt Road Museum” next to the ancient road, the historical changes and salt culture exhibits of the Bashan Ancient Road are displayed. You can gain an in-depth understanding of this thousand-year-old trade legend.

4. Cave in the heart of the earth (cave wonders)

Geocentric Cave is located in the middle of the canyon. It is a natural cave. The entrance of the cave is hidden between the rock walls. The constant temperature in the cave is about 18℃, and it is cool and pleasant in summer. The total length of the cave is about 800 meters, and the stalactites in the cave are colorful. Some are like “stalagmites” and “stone pillars” inserted directly into the top of the cave, while others are like “stone curtains” and “stone flowers” hanging from the cave wall. With the lighting effects in the cave, it is like an “underground palace”. There is also a walking plank road in the cave. Along the way, you can enjoy the “Dragon Palace Treasure Hall” and “Crystal Curtain” and other landscapes. Some sections of the road need to pass through narrow passages, which adds to the fun of exploration and is suitable for tourists who like the cave landscape.

5. Shuxingu Shoal (Leisure Experience Area)

Shuxin Valley is located in the lower reaches of the canyon. It is a gentle and shallow area with crystal clear streams and a depth of about 0.5-1 meter. It is a great place for parents and children to play in summer. Visitors can step barefoot on the pebbles of the shallows to feel the coolness of the stream; they can also take a kayak and walk slowly in the stream to admire the green mountains and green waters on both sides. There are rest pavilions and awnings next to the shallows, where you can take a break, taste local snacks (such as cold noodles and potatoes), and enjoy a leisurely canyon time.

6. Vertical sightseeing elevator (convenient experience)

The vertical sightseeing elevator is located at the exit of the canyon and is about 180 meters high, which is equivalent to 60 floors high. It adopts an all-glass car design and has a running speed of about 2 meters per second. It only takes 90 seconds to reach the ground from the bottom of the valley. When taking the elevator, you can enjoy the vertical scenery of the canyon through the glass and feel the visual impact of “rapid lift-off”. It is especially suitable for tourists with weak physical strength or who do not want to go down the mountain on foot. While saving energy, you can also experience a different kind of fun.
